For a long time now, long working hours in Bollywood has been a topic of discussion. On Wednesday, Preity Zinta also reacted to it and shared her views on gruelling shoot schedules. During the trailer
launch of her upcoming project Vibe, which also stars Kunal Kemmu in the lead, when she said that she herself has worked for as many as 18 hours a day, but her reason for doing so was different.
Speaking about her work schedule, Preity explained that she wanted to complete her professional commitments as quickly as possible so that she could return to the US and spend time with her children. “Each to its own. Of course, I was working for 18 hours because I wanted to finish my work as soon as I can and go back to America to be with my kids. My focus was, ‘I will come, I will finish it, bas mera kaam jaldi khatam kardo’. That was my reason,” she said but confessed that working this way was “tough”.
How Did Bollywood’s Long Shift Hours Debate Started?
For the unversed, the work-life balance debate in Bollywood started after Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Deepika Padukone parted ways from Prabhas-starrer Spirit last year. Reports suggest that her demands, including eight-hour workdays, a high salary, and a share in the film’s profits, did not sit well with director Vanga. Deepika, a new mother, is reportedly seeking to balance her work and personal life by reducing her working hours.
Previously, Deepika Padukone also spoke exclusively to CNBC-TV18 when she addressed the ongoing debate surrounding working conditions and said, “I have done this at many levels; this is not new to me. I think, even as far as pay is concerned, I have had to deal with whatever comes with it. I don’t even know what to call it, but I am someone who has always fought my battles silently. And for some strange reason, sometimes they become public, which is not the way I know and not the way I’ve been brought up. But yes, to fight my battles silently and in a dignified way is the way I know.”
