Captain Pradeep Krishnan, a senior Indigo Airlines pilot from Tamil Nadu, recently caught the limelight in Patna. On his flight from Chennai, he addressed passengers, many from Bihar, in Hindi before takeoff
for the return journey.
Despite being a Tamil speaker with limited knowledge of Hindi, Captain Krishnan chose Hindi over English to deliver an important safety message.
Standing between the cockpit and the passenger cabin, he greeted the passengers with, “Namaskar to everyone. My Hindi is very beautiful, you can just adjust. Today we are going from Patna to Chennai. At 33,000 feet above, there will be some daga-daga-daga (Tamil word) of turbulence. Wear your seat belt… otherwise you will be adega(Tamil word).”

Captain Krishnan’s effort, although imperfect, won the hearts of Hindi speakers on board. His video, posted on social media on August 19, quickly went viral. It has since received over two lakh likes and been shared by more than fifty thousand people.
His gesture has helped bridge the linguistic and cultural gap, showcasing that language barriers can be overcome with genuine effort and goodwill.
