Jr NTR made his Bollywood debut with War 2. The action drama received mixed responses. Well, it was reported that the actor has signed a multi-film deal with YRF, which also includes his solo. However,
it is now being reportedly that the film has hit a pause, leaving fans both surprised and curious. The film was expected to go on floors soon, but the latest buzz suggests that the project has been temporarily delayed because of JR NTR’s busy schedule with other projects.
According to Telugu 123, NTR had signed a multi-film deal with the Yash Raj Films banner. The project, featuring NTR in a solo lead role, was supposed to go on floors in the near future. But now the film has been put on hold. Jr NTR has decided to keep the project on hold until he finishes Prashanth Neel’s Dragon and Devara 2.
Jr NTR To Lead Multiple YRF Spy Universe Films
According to a report by ETimes, Aditya Chopra is crafting a larger-than-life character arc for Jr NTR that will extend far beyond a single film. A source close to the development revealed that Jr NTR’s role is being treated as a long-term investment in the spy franchise, much like Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Salman Khan’s Tiger. “His character won’t just be limited to War 2. Expect standalone films, spin-offs, and major crossover appearances,” the insider shared, hinting at a multi-film presence for the Telugu icon in the YRF cinematic universe.
War 2:
The hype around War 2 promised a roaring blockbuster, but the numbers tell a different story. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the much-anticipated spy thriller from YRF’s universe opened strongly but has since slowed down, leaving trade watchers concerned about its run. After a huge opening weekend, War 2 tumbled on its first Monday. Collections crashed to Rs 8.75 crore, a steep drop from the Rs 32.65 crore Sunday. The film never regained double-digit figures in the days that followed. By its second Friday, the drama had slumped to Rs 4 crore – its lowest single-day haul so far.
Saturday brought only a faint spark of recovery, with Rs 6.25 crore coming in, taking the 10-day domestic total to Rs 214.73 crore. The minor bump, however, hasn’t been enough to change the overall trend, which shows momentum fading quickly. Once in theatres, feedback only turned sharper. Many pointed out weak writing, flat storytelling and unimpressive effects. News18 Showsha’s review read, “The template is so formulaic that War 2 emerges as a jaded, done-to-death, globetrotting actioner. An espionage thriller is supposed to have a hero, a good guy-turned-arch-nemesis who feels that he has been wronged by a compatriot and a beauty-with-brains kind of a female spy, with dollops of gravity-defying action and a sexy dance number. But where’s the novelty? Where are the layers of storytelling? And most importantly, where’s the thrill? Sadly, War 2 is all style and no ammo.”
Upcoming works:
Next, Jr NTR will also be seen in Devara: Part 2, the sequel to the 2024-released film. While earlier there were speculations about the team dropping the plan, Jr NTR recently confirmed that the film will be “definitely happening.” At the success celebration of Mad square, he clarified, “Some are saying that Devara 2 will not happen. I have to say that the sequel is happening. We are just facing a small pause due to the Prasanth Neel project,” the actor clarified, putting the rumours to rest.”
Prashanth Neel’s Dragon, starring Jr NTR in the lead role, is set to release worldwide on January 9, 2026. At an event earlier this year, producer Ravi Shankar talked about the NTR-Neel project’s box office aspirations and budget. He said, “Definitely, Dragon is one of the unique scripts I’ve seen in Indian cinema. The sky’s the limit for the film.”
