As Border 2 gears up to carry forward the legacy of J.P. Dutta’s iconic war drama, speculation surrounding the film’s cast has been swirling across social media. With Sunny Deol returning as the sole link
to the original Border, fans were quick to wonder if other familiar faces—especially Akshaye Khanna—would also make a comeback. The rumours intensified after the release of Border 2’s first song, Ghar Kab Aaoge, when a still from the track went viral for featuring an actor who bore a striking resemblance to Akshaye Khanna. The coincidence, paired with the recent success of Dhurandhar, led fans to assume that the actor might be making a special appearance in the upcoming war film.
However, producer Nidhi Dutta has now put the speculation to rest.
Is Akshaye Khanna Really Part of Border 2?
In a conversation with Zoom, Nidhi Dutta—who is co-producing Border 2 alongside Bhushan Kumar—clearly denied any such development. When asked about Akshaye Khanna’s involvement, she said, “No, it is not true. We did not reach out to him.”
Nidhi, the elder daughter of veteran filmmaker J.P. Dutta, is steering the franchise forward while staying rooted in the emotional and patriotic ethos that defined the original Border. While Sunny Deol remains the only actor bridging the two films, Border 2 introduces a fresh ensemble featuring Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, all paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces.
Despite fan hopes, Nidhi clarified that Border 2 is not a continuation of the earlier characters. Instead, it is a spiritual successor that tells a new story inspired by the same values and reverence for India’s unsung heroes.
Why the Lookalike Sparked Confusion
The confusion arose during the launch of Ghar Kab Aaoge, which took place at Longewala and Tanot in Jaisalmer on January 2. The song was unveiled in the presence of BSF officers, their families, and thousands of fans, adding emotional weight to the moment.
In one segment of the song, viewers noticed an actor who resembled Akshaye Khanna, prompting online chatter about a possible cameo. However, the individual in question is a different actor altogether, whose resemblance to Akshaye appears to be purely coincidental.
Given the renewed interest in Akshaye Khanna following Dhurandhar, it was natural for audiences to hope for his return to a franchise as beloved as Border. That said, Border 2 has no direct narrative link to the 1997 classic based on the Battle of Longewala.
Presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series in association with J.P. Dutta’s J.P. Films, Border 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta and Nidhi Dutta, and directed by Anurag Singh. The film also stars Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, Medha Rana and others, and is slated for a theatrical release on January 23.
