Delhi Police have written to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), seeking the immediate removal of posts allegedly containing “derogatory, malicious and defamatory” content targeting constitutional
heads.
The latest move comes as Delhi Police continues its investigation into the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak at Jantar Mantar, which sparked widespread unrest in the national capital and triggered a nationwide political storm.
What Delhi Police Said In Notice To X
In its notice to the platform, the police said the content circulating on X was the subject of an ongoing investigation and requested the company to delete or remove the identified post or video without delay.
Apart from seeking the takedown of the content, Delhi Police also asked X to furnish the complete registration details of the account from which the material was uploaded.
The information sought includes the account holder’s full name, address, contact details, email ID, as well as login and logout records with date and time stamps.

The police have also requested the platform to preserve all data related to the alleged post or video for the purpose of the investigation and any future legal proceedings.
In addition, X has been asked to share any other information that may assist investigators in the case.
The notice also seeks a certificate under Section 63(4) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) in relation to the electronic records.

Delhi Police Mulls Action Against Post Targeting PM Modi
Earlier this week, news agency PTI reported that Delhi Police was considering action against social media posts deemed “objectionable” and “abusive” that targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders in connection with the July 20 CJP protest at Jantar Mantar.
According to police sources cited by PTI, notices were likely to be issued to social media platforms directing them to remove such posts, videos and comments after a review of the content uploaded during and after the protest.
“After review of content uploaded during and after the protest, police will issue notices to remove such posts which are abusive in nature,” a police source had told PTI.
The source added that authorities had already begun identifying objectionable material across various social media platforms and were assessing whether any of the content violated legal provisions or had the potential to disturb public order.
According to PTI, Delhi Police’s Social Media Monitoring Team had been closely monitoring online platforms to track posts related to the protest and flag content for further scrutiny.

All About CJP Protest
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was protesting against the NEET-UG paper leak, which had left lakhs of students affected nationwide.
As part of the protests, climate activist Sonam Wangchuk went on an indefinite hunger strike, and the CJP organised the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on July 20.
Violence erupted during the march with clashes breaking out between demonstrators and security personnel at multiple locations around Jantar Mantar and nearby areas.
According to official records, the RAF fired 55 non-electrical shells, 15 electrical shells, five tear smoke grenades, two rounds from anti-riot guns and two rounds of plastic pellets while dispersing the crowd.
According to Delhi Police, more than 65 protesters and over 200 police personnel were injured in the unrest.
On Saturday, CJP ended its 36-day sit-in at Jantar Mantar after the Centre had accepted several of its key demands.
These included the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, withdrawal of FIRs against protesters, protection from retaliatory action and a commitment to examine wider reforms in the examination system.
