A software engineer’s simple tweet has struck a chord online after he shared how he nearly tripled his salary in just two job switches without an IIT background or an MBA degree. His journey, shared on X
(formerly Twitter), has gained widespread attention online as it received more than two million views.
Many users praised the growth while others connected with his story of working his way up from a less traditional path.
No Campus Offers, Just Hard Work
In his post, engineer Saurabh Yadav wrote, “First job: 26LPA, Second: 28LPA, Third: 70LPA. No IIT. No MBA. Just worked hard.”
He said his first job paid Rs 26 lakh per annum. After switching once, his second job offered Rs 28 lakh per annum. It was the third switch that marked a major leap as it paid him Rs 70 lakh per annum. Though he didn’t mention the current company name in the tweet or his bio but the post has become a talking point for those working outside the IIT-MBA circle.
According to his X bio, Saurabh has worked at Flipkart and Alpha Grep in the past. He also mentioned that he graduated in 2022 from IIIT Nagpur.

Another Leap But With A Twist
Just last month, another young professional shared their story of switching paths, not for a higher-paying corporate role but to follow a long-held passion for research.
A 22-year-old techie shared their journey from earning Rs 3.6 LPA in the IT industry to landing an Rs 18 LPA offer at BARC. The Reddit user revealed in a post that they left their software job to pursue research, a field they truly cared about. Their decision paid off when they were selected as a Nuclear Scientist (Scientific Officer-C) at BARC, Mumbai which is one of the country’s most prestigious research institutions.
