Amid the nationwide protests in Iran, US Senator Lindsey Graham has issued a stark warning to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, asking him to “beware of drones”, as the latter earlier cautioned
American politicians against what he described as hostile actions towards Tehran.
“To the Ayatollah: we don’t talk as much as we used to. Have I offended you? As to your recent warning to American politicians, I hear Moscow is a winter wonderland. Beware of the drones. Make Iran Great Again,” Graham wrote in a post on ‘X’.
Graham’s “Moscow is a winter wonderland” remark is a direct reference to the reports claiming that the Iranian Supreme Leader had an “escape plan” to seek refuge in Russia, as the ongoing protests continue to escalate.
Khamenei’s warning to US
Earlier, Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei warned the US politicians against what he termed as their “deceitful actions”.
“The great Iranian nation has asserted its resolve and identity in the face of the enemies. This was a warning to US politicians that they should halt their deceitful actions and stop relying on their traitorous hirelings,” Khamenei said in a post on ‘X’.
US slaps 25 per cent tariffs on Iran’s trade allies
US President Donald Trump, earlier in the day, announced a steep 25 per cent tariff against the trade partners of Iran “on any and all business”.
“Effective immediately, any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a Tariff of 25% on any and all business being done with the United States of America. This Order is final and conclusive. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The warnings come amid the heightened tensions in the geopolitical landscape, with the ongoing protests in Iran and the repeated warnings by the US.
What began as a protest against the economic slowdown in Iran morphed into a massive nationwide demonstration against the Ali Khamenei-led regime. According to media reports, over 600 people have been killed in the protests.
