India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill entered his name in the record books on Sunday, April 12, by becoming the second fastest Indian batter to score 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League. The 26-year-old
right-handed batter from Punjab, who is part of the Gujarat Titans IPL 2026 squad, needed 118 innings to reach the 4000-run mark in the IPL. Only KL Rahul reached the 4000-run mark in the world’s richest franchise cricket league faster than Gill.
Rahul, who is part of the Delhi Capitals IPL 2026 squad, scored his 4000th IPL run in the 105th innings. He is not just Indian but also the fastest batter in the world to score 4000 runs in the IPL.
In the list of Indian batters with the fastest 4000 runs in the IPL, Rahul and Gill are followed by Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Gautam Gambhir. Kohli needed 128 innings to reach the 4000-run mark, whereas Raina and Gambhir scored their 4000th IPL run in the 140th innings.

Three more batters apart from Rahul have managed to reach the 4000-run mark in the IPL faster than Gill. Former West Indies batter Chris Gayle scored his 4000th run in the 112th innings, David Warner achieved the same feat in the 114th innings and Jos Buttler needed 116 innings to complete 4000 IPL runs.

Gill, who has also played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the past, needed 25 runs in the IPL 2026 match between LSG and GT to reach the 4000-run mark, and he achieved the objective on the fifth ball of the fifth over of GT’s innings bowled by Mohammed Shami.
Gill is the 14th Indian and overall 19th batter in the world to score 4000 or more runs in the IPL. RCB’s Virat Kohli tops the list of batters with the most runs in the IPL. The former Indian captain has played 270 IPL matches so far and amassed a total of 8790 runs.
