Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bengaluru today to unveil a series of major transport initiatives aimed at transforming the city’s connectivity.
PM Modi’s itinerary includes the launch of three
Vande Bharat Express trains, the inauguration of the Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line, the groundbreaking for Phase-3 of the metro expansion, and an address to the public.
“Tomorrow, August 10, I look forward to being with the people of Bengaluru. Three Vande Bharat Express trains will be flagged off from KSR Railway Station to improve connectivity. To enhance Bengaluru city’s infrastructure, the Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro will be inaugurated. The foundation stone for the third phase of Bengaluru Metro will be laid. A public program in the city will be addressed,” said PM Modi on X ahead of his visit.
At 11 am, the Prime Minister is scheduled to flag off three Vande Bharat Express services from KSR Bengaluru Railway Station: the KSR Bengaluru–Belagavi route, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Amritsar route, and the Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune route.
This will take the total count of Vande Bharat trains in India to 150.
Karnataka will now have 11 such trains, while Maharashtra, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir will also see their high-speed rail networks expanded.
Following the flag-off ceremony, PM Modi will inaugurate the 19-kilometre Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro, stretching from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra.
Covering 16 stations and linking key residential, commercial, and industrial areas, the line has been built under Phase 2 of the metro project at a cost of approximately Rs 7,160 crore.
With its addition, Bengaluru’s metro network will extend beyond 96 km, offering daily benefits to lakhs of commuters. The Prime Minister will also travel by metro from RV Road to Electronic City, one of the city’s busiest IT hubs.
Later, he will lay the foundation stone for the Rs 15,610 crore Phase-3 of the metro project, which will add more than 44 km of elevated tracks and 31 new stations.
This expansion is expected to significantly bolster the city’s public transport system and help reduce traffic congestion.
PM Modi’s visit will conclude with a public address at around 1 pm, where he is expected to highlight the government’s vision for world-class transport infrastructure and improved quality of life for Bengaluru’s residents.
