been many speculations on whether the actor would be joining the HBO adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels. Now, the Oppenheimer actor has confirmed whether or not he is ready to take on the role.
Cillian has officially denied the rumours that he is joining the upcoming Harry Potter series as the ruthless villain Voldemort. When asked by The Times if he taking on the role, the 49-year-old Irish actor said, “I’m categorically not.” He further asked the outlet, “Can you make that the headline?”
Cillian Murphy Says He Didn’t Even Know About The Rumours
The Peaky Blinders actor admitted that he is so off-grid that he did not even know about the rumours that he was linked to Harry Potter. “Being a personality is not what I am good at,” he said, adding, “But then existing in this world? Talking about yourself, going on f—g red carpets? It’s not healthy if you start to believe this shit, and I’m really bad at it too.” At the end, he shared, “I’m an incredibly average person, really.”
When Cillian Murphy Shared How Difficult It Would Be For The One Playing Voldemort
This ain’t the first time that Cillian shut down rumours of playing Voldemort in the Harry Potter series. Last year, he appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he was asked about the speculations by the host. He said, “No. I mean, no. Genuinely. My kids show me on occasions, but like, no. I don’t know anything about that.”
He not only shut down the rumours, but also talked about how difficult it would be for whoever actually gets it. “I mean, also, it’s just really hard to follow anything Ralph Fiennes does. The man is an absolute acting legend, so good luck to whoever is gonna fill those shoes.”
Ralph Fiennes’ Pick For Voldemort Was Cillian Murphy
While Cillian is not stepping into the shoes of Voldemort, Ralph Fiennes suggested the Oppenheimer actor as the perfect fit to play Voldemort in the upcoming HBO TV series. During his appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, the Schindler’s List actor agreed that the Academy Award-winning actor Cillian would be a great fit for the chief antagonist in the upcoming Harry Potter series. He said, “Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favour of Cillian. Yeah.”
The Harry Potter series is currently in production with a fresh cast and is expected to be released in 2027.
