Living in Mumbai often comes with a price tag that goes far beyond numbers. For many homebuyers, the dream of owning a place in the city clashes sharply with what is actually offered inside those walls.
That gap between cost and reality has once again drawn attention after a social media video sparked intense discussion around Mumbai’s housing scene. Shared by Instagram user Jayantika, the clip puts a spotlight on what Rs 1.25 crore gets you in the city.
Inside 1 BHK In Mumbai That Raised Eyebrows
The video begins on a sharp note. “Mumbai mein real estate ke naam par kya b******* hori hai, let me show you (What nonsense is happening in the name of real estate in Mumbai, let me show you),” Jayantika says as she walks into the apartment.
Jayantika explains that the property is a 1 BHK apartment. As she steps inside, she initially mistakes the entrance area for a lobby. Moments later, she realises that the same space is actually the living room. “This is a 1 BHK apartment. Mere ko laga ye lobby hai but this is actually the hall (I thought this was the lobby, but this is actually the hall),” she says.
The camera then moves forward to reveal the kitchen. Instead of being a separate room, the kitchen has been built directly into the hallway. Right opposite the kitchen is the bathroom.
As she continues the tour, Jayantika enters the bedroom. According to her, the bedroom is “literally bigger than the hall.” The price of the 1 BHK apartment is Rs 1.25 crore.
In the end, she remarks, “Really Mumbai mein kuch bhi chal raha hai (Honestly, anything is happening in Mumbai).”
In the caption of her post, Jayantika added, “Mumbai real estate feels like a massive social experiment at this point.”
What People Had To Say Online
Since being shared, the video has accumulated more than four million views. Many users used humour and sarcasm to share their thoughts on the apartment’s size and layout.
One user joked, “Toilet seat pe baith ke ubalte hue doodh pe nazar rakhne ka convenience de rakha hai (They’ve provided the convenience of keeping an eye on boiling milk while sitting on the toilet).
Another added, “Bathroom looks as big as the hall.”
“A Mumbaikar still feels it is worth it,” someone else remarked while a person pointed out, “He could have made a door to the washroom from the bedroom and would be just fine for one person to live.”
“Expose the builder I’ve seen better than 1BHK in Mumbai with good layouts at the same price,” an individual wrote.
“Wow!! This coffin has a bathroom and a kitchen too,” a viewer sarcastically said.
“But introvert ke liye ye best hai. Ek dum sukoon no one will visit also (But this is perfect for an introvert. Complete peace, no one will visit anyway),” a commenter humourously said.
“Matchboxes can hold more sticks,” “Itni to Gujarat me balcony hoti hai (Balconies in Gujarat are bigger than this),” “Bhai ye toh shuru hote he khatam ho gaya (Brother, this ended as soon as it began)” and “Mumbai waale be like – ‘itna spacious toh hai’ (People from Mumbai would say, ‘it’s quite spacious’)” were some other remarks.
Is this the kind of space you imagined when you hear “Mumbai 1 BHK”?
