Karisma Kapoor and her former husband, businessman Sunjay Kapur, shared a tumultuous relationship that culminated in an even more contentious divorce. Their separation became a media spectacle, with both
sides levelling serious allegations against each other. While Karisma accused Sunjay of having an extramarital affair, he alleged that the Zubeidaa actress married him for his wealth. Their explosive divorce proceedings consistently made headlines due to the nature of the statements they hurled at one another.
Amid this chaos back in the day, Karisma’s father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, known for his outspoken nature, didn’t hold back from expressing his disdain for Sunjay Kapur. In a throwback interview with Hindustan Times, he had called his his former son-in-law as a “third-class man.”
Randhir had said, “Sunjay is a third-class man. I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He has debauchery in his system and never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull** to her, and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this.”
Randhir’s strong reaction came shortly after Sunjay claimed that Karisma had married him for money. In response to those allegations, Karisma’s lawyer Kranti Sathe issued a statement denying the claims, saying, “The allegations against Karisma are all false. We shall soon give a reply, but the onus is on Sunjay to prove these allegations in the court.”
Meanwhile, in a petition filed by his lawyers Aman and Priya Hingorani and quoted by Mumbai Mirror, Sunjay accused Karisma of failing “as a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother,” and further claimed she had an extramarital relationship.

Karisma Kapoor’s reported claim on Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate
Following Sunjay Kapur’s death in London on June 12, 2025, fresh developments have emerged regarding a reported Rs 30,000 crore inheritance dispute. A Dainik Jagran report suggested that Karisma may be exploring legal options to claim a share of her former husband’s estate.
Adding another twist to the ongoing estate conversation, Safira, the daughter of Sunjay’s third wife, Priya Sachdev, has reportedly dropped her surname ‘Chatwal’ and adopted ‘Kapur’. Industry observers believe the change may not just be symbolic but a strategic move, potentially aimed at strengthening her stake in the inheritance.
