Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan said that ‘history’ was created, as the 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a much-awaited debut, to become the country’s youngest-ever international cricketer.
Sooryavanshi,
the 15-year-old batting prodigy from Bihar’s Samastipur district, etched his name into the record books on Saturday, July 4, by becoming India’s youngest-ever international debutant, going past the mark set by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, which had stood for almost 37 years.
Sooryavanshi was handed his India cap by T20I vice-captain Tilak Varma, as the entire team applauded the massive achievement of the 15-year-old.
“Note down the date. 4-7-2026. History has been created. Can’t wait for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to play 🇮🇳,” Irfan tweeted on Saturday evening.

At just 15 years and 99 days old, Sooryavanshi appears to know only one way to bat: attack. His fearless approach is suited to the fast-paced demands of T20s, making it fitting that he made his India debut in the format against England in Manchester in the second game of the five-match series.
“Great to see Vaibhav Sooryavanshi make his international debut today. From what I’ve seen up close, he looks absolutely ready to make a serious impact at this level, regardless of what he gets today,” former Australian cricketer Aaron Finch tweeted.

Spare a thought for Sanju though, not long ago he was the key to India’s T20…

While Tendulkar’s international debut in the 1989 Test against Pakistan was captured in grainy live PTV footage, Sooryavanshi has stepped onto the international stage with every move tracked by ultra-high-definition 4K cameras ever since he arrived in the UK.
“Team mates in the IPL , now head to head . Let’s go Vaibhav vs Jofra archer #engvsind,” former cricketer Sreevats Goswami tweeted.
