The entire entertainment industry was left shocked as acclaimed singer and composer Arijit Singh announced his retirement from playback singing on Tuesday. In a shocking turn of events, he took to his social
media and announced that he will not be taking any more new playback singing assignments. However, new reports about his future projects have already started emerging.
Recently, Hindustan Times quoted a source as saying, “Arijit is going to be busy with his debut film as a director. He’s been very passionate about it for long, and that required his time and efforts. Among the flood of offers, he wouldn’t have been able to do it. He will complete his director duties. This is more like a break for a year or so.”
While the report claims that Arijit’s “retirement” from playback singing is only temporary, the singer has not responded to these rumours. Previously, he took to his X account to explain why he took this step at such a high point in his career.
Arijit revealed that the move was neither impulsive nor driven by a single incident. He wrote, “There isn’t just one reason for this; there are multiple factors, and I have been contemplating this for quite some time. Ultimately, I have mustered the necessary courage.”
Opening up about his creative restlessness, the singer added, “One of the reasons is quite straightforward: I tend to lose interest quickly, which is why I frequently alter the arrangements of my songs and perform them live.”
He then made a striking admission: “So, here’s the truth: I’ve grown weary. I need to explore different music to thrive.” Arijit also pointed to his desire to make space for new talent in the industry, writing, “Another factor is my eagerness to hear new singers who can inspire me genuinely.”
Meanwhile, Maatrubhumi from Battle of Galwan stands as Arijit Singh’s most recent playback release. While details of his upcoming projects remain under wraps, the singer is expected to continue performing live and focusing on independent music, signalling a new, more personal phase of his artistic journey.
