Shubman Gill entered his name in the history books on Wednesday (April 8) by becoming the first cricketer to score 2500 runs in the IPL for Gujarat Titans. Gill, who has been associated with GT in the IPL since
their first season, needed 12 runs in their ongoing IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals to join the 2500-run club, and he achieved the objective by scoring a four on the fifth ball of the 7th over of DC’s innings bowled by Axar Patel.
Gill is overall the 13th Indian cricketer to score 2500 runs for one team in the Indian Premier League.
The overall record of scoring most runs for one team in the IPL is held by Virat Kohli. Kohli, who is the highest run scorer in IPL history, has 8758 runs to his name in 269 matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is followed by Rohit Sharma, who has scored 5994 runs in 230 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians.

Gill, who missed GT’s second match of IPL 2026 against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday (April 4) due to muscle sprain, scored 70 runs from 45 balls on Wednesday. He hammered 4 fours and 5 sixes during his stay at the crease and added 60 runs for the second wicket with Jos Buttler (52) and 104 runs for the third wicket with Washington Sundar, who made 55 runs from just 32 balls.
If Gill, who overall has 3975 runs to his name in 120 IPL matches played so far for two teams – Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans – manages to score 25 runs in GT’s fourth match of IPL 2026, then he will become the second fastest Indian batter to score 4000 runs in the IPL.
The world record of being the fastest batter in the world to score 4000 runs in the IPL is in the name of KL Rahul. Rahul, who is part of DC’s IPL 2026 squad, scored his 4000th IPL run in the 105th innings.
