Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri’s O’Romeo, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, is all set to hit theatres on Friday (February 13). Ahead of its release, the film has reportedly been granted an A (Adults Only)
certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). This marks Shahid Kapoor’s second A-rated film after Kabir Singh.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the makers were asked to implement a few dialogue modifications before certification was cleared. The word “item” was replaced with “Kumari” in one instance. In another scene, a particular word was muted, while a separate “inappropriate” term was removed entirely.
Notably, the romantic and intimate sequences were left untouched, with no visual cuts imposed on those portions.
Violence Trimmed, Disclaimers Extended
While the romance remained intact, certain violent visuals were slightly reduced. A close-up shot showing throat-slitting was shortened by 20 per cent, approximately three seconds. Two additional shots were reduced by two seconds each — one involving a bloodied head being struck and another showing blood splattering onto a woman’s face. A visual of a woman being slapped was also trimmed by 20 per cent, roughly two seconds.
The CBFC further instructed the makers to include anti-tobacco and anti-smoking disclaimers. The duration of these warnings and their voice-overs was extended, adding 1 minute and 57 seconds to the overall runtime.
As per the censor certificate, the final approved duration of O’Romeo stands at 178.41 minutes, translating to 2 hours, 58 minutes and 41 seconds.
Budget, Box Office Stakes And Release Clash
Mounted on a reported budget of Rs 75 to Rs 80 crore, O’Romeo will need to cross the Rs 100 crore mark to be declared a hit. With its OTT and satellite rights already sold, a substantial portion of the film’s investment has been recovered ahead of its theatrical run.
Produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the Mumbai-set gangster drama is based on Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The trailer and songs, including Paan Ki Dukaan and Ashikon Ki Colony, have generated strong buzz.
O’Romeo releases on February 13 and will clash at the box office with Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gorav’s Tu Yaa Main.
