Tuman, a small village in the Chawasi area of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, got its first motorable road on Monday for the first time after India gained Independence, bringing joy to residents.
The
2.7-kilometre stretch connecting Shakeld to Tuman was built by the Public Works Department, providing much-needed connectivity to a region that had long remained isolated from basic transport facilities.
To celebrate the milestone, a trial run of a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus was conducted. The bus was flagged off from Shakeld to Tuman by Karsog Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gaurav Mahajan. Villagers joined the officials on the bus journey to mark the occasion, turning the event into a moment of communal celebration.
In cities, buses are ignored.
In Tummun, Karsog (Mandi), villagers celebrate a bus with ribbon-cutting and flower garlands 💐
Why?
Because it’s the first time an HRTC bus has reached their village. In the hills, connectivity is celebration.

The bus’s arrival sparked joy and excitement among residents, who had waited decades for reliable transport. The villagers distributed sweets and organised a formal welcome ceremony, with a video capturing people clapping, cheering, and holding garlands as they greeted the bus. A video capturing the reactions of locals has surfaced on social media.
The community expressed gratitude to the district administration, the Public Works Department, the Transport Corporation, and other government departments for completing the road and enabling bus services. They also appealed to authorities to ensure the service continues permanently.
The road was officially inaugurated by Prithvi Singh Negi, former president of the Karsog Congress Committee. The event’s chief guest was Mahesh Raj, a former Congress candidate from the constituency and current party office-bearer.
