Ather Energy is set to pull the covers off its most awaited electric scooter on 30 August during its annual community day.
Unlike its current sporty and premium scooters, this new model is built on an all-new
‘EL’ platform.
According to teasers, the upcoming scooter will not only be versatile but also scalable and cost-effective. The first glimpse will be in the form of a concept this month, with the production version expected to roll out in 2026.
Why Is the EL Platform Important?
For over a decade, Ather has carved a niche for itself in the premium EV space. Its scooters are known for style, speed, and innovation. However, to win a larger share of India’s two-wheeler market, the brand needs to offer entry-level, affordable e-scooters.
As per Bikewale, the new EL platform is designed to bridge this gap. It will help Ather introduce entry-level electric scooters, making the brand more accessible and boosting its chances to capture a larger share of the market.
Where Will These Scooters Be Made?
Ather Energy is also expanding its manufacturing footprint. A new plant is being set up in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. While the company hasn’t yet disclosed detailed plans for this facility, it is expected that the new EL platform scooters will be produced here and sold across the country.
What Does This Mean for the EV Market?
Ather’s move signals a major shift in India’s electric two-wheeler industry. By combining affordability with scalability, the company is positioning itself to take on rivals in the entry-level segment. If successful, this could reshape consumer choices and accelerate EV adoption in India.
