“Our mothers, sisters, and daughters across the country are appreciating the decision to ensure women’s reservation from the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections of the year 2029. In this letter dedicated to the women power of India, I have shared my feelings with the fellow citizens on the subject of soon realizing this resolve that has been pending for decades…,” the Prime Minister wrote in a separate post.
PM Modi Pays Tribute To Ambedkar, Highlights Women’s Growing Role
The letter comes ahead of a key Parliament session where the government is expected to push a constitutional amendment linked to the women’s reservation framework. Opening his message, PM Modi paid tribute to BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, calling him a foundational figure in India’s journey and stating, “Today, 14 April, is a day that holds immense significance in India’s history… I pay tribute to him and recall his commitment to constitutional values which continues to guide our journey,” the Prime Minister wrote.
In the letter, PM Modi highlighted the expanding role of women in shaping India’s development across sectors such as startups, science, education, sports, and grassroots entrepreneurship. He cited the rise of women-led ventures, achievements of athletes, and the growing success of self-help groups as signs of a shifting social and economic landscape, strengthening the argument for greater political representation.
Calls For Unity To Deliver Historic Change
Emphasising the importance of inclusion in governance, he wrote, “It is imperative that we do whatever is possible… for that, the active participation of women is absolutely non-negotiable.” He also pointed to historical support for the idea, recalling efforts dating back to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Calling for unity, Modi urged political parties to back the proposed amendment, warning against further delays. “The daughters of India cannot be asked to wait endlessly for what is rightfully theirs. When the voice of women becomes stronger in our legislatures, the voice of democracy itself becomes stronger,” he said.
He also appealed to citizens to encourage their representatives to support the move, linking the reform to the broader vision of building a developed India by 2047.
