A unique and unexpected dessert combination is stirring debate across social media after a user shared a photo of a quirky pastry from her neighbourhood. The croissant, filled with gulab jamun, has intrigued
some while leaving others unconvinced.
“In my neighbourhood. A croissant with GulabJamun inside !!!!,” said a user who goes by the name @Patralekha2011, on X.
Reflecting on her tasting experience, she added, “It was sweet, spongy, but not the quintessential gulab jamun. I am biased coz I like a classic croissant.” Curious to explore further, she also mentioned trying what the bakery calls a “Cromun,” describing it as “not quite croissant, not quite gulab jamun.”
The fusion dessert has been introduced by L’Opera Patisserie as part of its creative offerings, with the brand positioning it under the broader theme of the India-France Year of Innovation 2026.
The concept blends the buttery, flaky layers of a traditional French croissant with the syrup-soaked richness of the beloved Indian sweet, gulab jamun, two culinary icons rarely seen together.
Unsurprisingly, the internet has had plenty to say. Reactions ranged from curiosity to outright disbelief, with some users embracing the novelty while others questioned the need to reinvent a classic.
“I’m dying how could they do this!,” wrote one user, expressing mock horror at the unusual pairing. Another commenter appeared more open-minded, asking, “Wow I’m so curious. What was the texture of the gulab jamun like inside?”
However, not all responses were light-hearted. Some took a more critical stance, with one remarking, “The manufacturer should be sued for hurting the sentiments of the real gulabjamuns.”
Others argued that certain culinary traditions are best left untouched. “Geez. It’s supposed to be had with coffee as a bakery item in the morning. Stuff Indian sweets into desserts like macrons instead. Leave the croissant alone please,” another user commented.

The debate highlights a broader trend in the food industry, where fusion creations often walk a fine line between innovation and tradition. Whether the “Cromun” becomes a lasting hit or remains a fleeting novelty, it has certainly succeeded in grabbing attention and stirring conversation across social media.
