Ranchi, Jul 6 (PTI) The IMD on Monday forecast heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, at various places across Jharkhand over the next four days.
According to the weather office,
light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and winds at 40-50 kmph, is likely across all 24 districts of the state from July 7 to 10, with heavy rainfall at isolated places during the period.
Eight northeastern districts — Giridih, Dhanbad, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Godda and Sahibganj — are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.
Light to moderate rainfall is likely across the state on Thursday and Friday, the IMD said.
“Cloudy conditions are likely to prevail, with a possibility of light to moderate rainfall across the state, and heavy rain is expected at isolated places. The state is likely to witness heavy rainfall over the next couple of days as the well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coast intensified into a depression, creating favourable conditions for sustained monsoon activity,” the IMD said in its bulletin.
“There will be no significant change in the maximum temperature over the next three days. Thereafter, it is likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the subsequent two days,” it said.
“We have issued a ‘yellow’ alert (be prepared) for isolated thunderstorms and lightning across all 24 districts of the state from July 7 to July 10. Wind speeds may reach 40-50 kmph, and heavy rainfall is expected in several districts. It is an appropriate time for farmers who have prepared paddy seedlings and fields for cultivation,” IMD Ranchi Deputy Director Abhishek Anand told PTI.
During the past 24 hours, Nimdih in Saraikela-Kharsawan district recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 79.8 mm, followed by Rania in Khunti district with 68.6 mm.
Daltonganj in Palamu recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 35.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Pakur at 33.2 degrees Celsius and Bokaro Thermal at 31.5 degrees Celsius. Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius.
The southwest monsoon entered Jharkhand on June 12 and covered the entire state by June 30. The state has recorded a 42 per cent rainfall deficit till July 6, according to IMD data. PTI RPS MNB
