Just weeks after losing his father, veteran actor Dharmendra, Sunny Deol made a return to the public eye, attending the teaser launch of his upcoming film Border 2 in Mumbai. The event marked an emotional
moment for the actor, who faced the spotlight with courage days after his personal loss. Sunny was joined by co-stars Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty, while Diljit Dosanjh was absent from the event.
On December 16, Sunny reprised his iconic role as Major Kuldip Singh from the 1997 classic Border, appearing in a turban and posing for photographs with Ahan and Varun. Fans and media witnessed a touching sight as Sunny balanced his grief with the excitement of promoting a film that continues the legacy of one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved war dramas.

Border 2 explores the 1971 Indo-Pak War, bringing together a mix of veteran and new-age heroes. Sunny leads Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty in a story that blends battlefield intensity with personal drama. The teaser, unveiled at the Mumbai event, has already impressed audiences with its scale, action, and emotional resonance.
The teaser opens with gripping war sequences, with Sunny’s character challenging Pakistan and rallying his soldiers. The new generation of heroes is shown across various frontiers, while moments from their personal lives add depth to the narrative. A standout scene has Sunny urging his troops to shout so loudly that “even Lahore can hear the war cries of Indian soldiers.” The sequence concludes with sweeping aerial, ground, and naval battles, accompanied by the iconic tune Hindustan Meri Jaan from the original film.
The teaser’s release on December 16 was timed with the 44th Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s victory in the 1971 war. Leading up to this, character posters of the main cast were gradually released, culminating in a group poster the previous Friday.
Earlier speculation suggested that Diljit Dosanjh might be removed from the film following objections from the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) over his casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in another project. However, Dosanjh remains part of the sequel, and rumours of Punjabi actor Ammy Virk replacing him were denied.
Border 2 is produced by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series in association with JP Dutta’s JP Films, with Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta backing the project. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film also features Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh, Medha Rana, Paramvir Cheema, Guneet Sandhu, and Angad Singh. It is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026, ahead of Republic Day.
The original Border (1997), starring Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, and Akshaye Khanna, remains one of Hindi cinema’s most cherished war dramas.
