Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday described the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as a “historic and landmark” pact. Speaking on the agreement, Goyal said the FTA was concluded
in a record time of nine months, making it one of India’s fastest trade deals. “More importantly, it has two to three very interesting elements. It is an FTA led entirely by a women-led FTA team,” he said, calling it a proud moment for India’s trade diplomacy.
The minister also pointed out the geopolitical significance of the pact, noting that it is India’s third FTA with a Five Eyes nation, after Australia and the United Kingdom. “Australia, the UK and now New Zealand — this reflects growing trust and deeper economic engagement with advanced economies,” Goyal said.
