Jacqueline Fernandez earlier filed a plea seeking permission from the court to turn approver in the Sukesh Chandrashekhar money laundering case, but now the actress has withdrawn the plea. The plea was
filed last month, but she took it back on Tuesday before the Patiala House Court in Delhi.
Earlier, when Jacqueline filed the plea, the ED strongly opposed it and said that the actress was “a significant beneficiary of the proceeds of crime and an active participant in the money laundering scheme under PMLA, 2002.” Speaking on granting her the position of an approver, the ED called it a miscarriage of justice and said “It would undermine the gravity of the offence she has committed.” Now, Bollywood Hungama has reported that on Tuesday, the actress withdrew the plea.
Case Background
Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s name surfaced in connection with orchestrating a ₹200 crore extortion racket, allegedly duping high-profile individuals, including the family of former Ranbaxy promoters. Along with Sukesh, the ED also named Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez as one of the accused in the money laundering case and began the probe.
The ED, in its investigation, claimed that the actress received expensive gifts worth several crores from Chandrashekhar, which were suspected to be proceeds of crime. Jacqueline has consistently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that she was unaware of the illicit origin of these gifts.
Over the years, the case has seen multiple twists, including repeated questioning of the actor by the ED, legal challenges to quash proceedings, and public attention due to Chandrashekhar’s claims and letters from jail.
