Several states have announced school holidays for September 1, 2025 (Monday), following heavy rainfall alerts and continuous downpours. Authorities have ordered the closure of schools and colleges in multiple
regions to ensure the safety of students and staff. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of intense showers, prompting precautionary measures by state administrations.
Uttarakhand Declares Holiday
The Uttarakhand government has declared a one-day holiday on September 1, 2025 (Monday), for all government, semi-government, and private schools from Classes 1 to 12, as well as Anganwadi centres, in several districts due to the IMD’s heavy rainfall warning.
The holiday has been announced in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Tehri, and Almora districts. District administrations have instructed all educational institutions to remain closed, prioritising the safety of students and staff.
School Holiday In Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh is also witnessing the impact of bad weather and heavy rains. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall on September 1. In view of this, a holiday has been declared in all educational institutions on Monday in Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and the Banjar, Kullu, and Manali sub-divisions of Kullu district.
Jammu Schools And Colleges To Remain Shut
Schools and colleges will remain closed in Jammu today, September 1, due to heavy rains. Due to continuous rains, landslides and flood alerts have been issued in the area. To ensure the safety of students and staff, all government as well as private schools in the Jammu region will remain closed today.
“Due to incessant rains and landslides in hilly areas, all government & private schools across Jammu Division will remain closed on 01-09-2025 (Monday) to ensure the safety of students and staff,” an official notification stated.
Last week as well, schools and colleges were closed. In view of continuous rains, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has postponed the private bi-annual exams for Class 10 and Class 11 Part 1. The exams were earlier scheduled to be conducted on August 27, 2025. Revised dates are yet to be announced by JKBOSE.

Punjab Extends Holidays Till September 3
The Punjab government has extended school holidays by three more days. Earlier, the schools were closed from August 27 to August 30. Now, the schools will remain closed till September 3.
In a post on X, Education Minister Punjab Harjot Singh Bains declared a holiday in all government/aided/recognized and private schools in the state till September 3.
