A viral post on X revealing a kindergarten fee of more than Rs 2.5 lakh a year has sparked fresh outrage online, with many questioning why parents are being asked to pay such a huge amount for pre-primary
education.
The post, shared by a user named Sakshi, drew widespread attention after she wrote, “Rs 2.5 lakh fees for learning Twinkle Twinkle,” while attaching an image of the school’s detailed fee breakdown. The remark quickly resonated with social media users, many of whom expressed disbelief over the amount being charged for pre-primary education.
According to the fee chart in the viral post, parents are expected to pay a one-time admission charge of Rs 48,000. This includes a non-refundable admission fee of Rs 15,000 and a refundable caution deposit of Rs 33,000.
In addition to this, the annual school fee comes to Rs 2,24,718. The amount reportedly covers tuition fees, library charges and gymkhana expenses. However, the fee does not include other costs such as transport, school shoes and socks, cafeteria charges and other miscellaneous expenses, meaning the overall cost could be even higher.
The document also mentions that payments can only be made through formal methods such as cheque, demand draft, card or online transfer. It further notes that tuition and admission fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
As the post gained traction, many users pointed out that such fee structures are becoming increasingly common in premium and international schools across major Indian cities. Some claimed that nursery and kindergarten fees at top private schools can go beyond Rs 3.5 lakh per year.
Supporters of such institutions argued that the high cost is often linked to better infrastructure, smaller class sizes, air-conditioned classrooms, sports facilities, activity zones, skating rinks, swimming pools and meal plans.
However, many others questioned whether these premium facilities justify the steep fees, especially for children who are just beginning their education.
“This is clearly going out of control. WTF is govt doing why no regulations to control this shitty fee hike,” said one user.
“Twinkle Twinkle Little Star… now with AC classrooms, gymkhana membership & a side of EMI plan for parents 😭 Who’s teaching the rhymes — the kids or the fee structure?” said another.
“Indian parents are fool .. even when they ask they blindly pay. Upto primary education should be free . parents just need there kids school start or ends with Royal or international 🤣🤣” a third user said.

Some users argued that parents themselves are encouraging the trend by preferring schools with “international” branding or premium-sounding names.
“Isn’t India a scam???” said another.
“The price you pay to make sure your kids don’t sit with dehatis and nalayak poor people. It’s worth it imo,” said another.
