Shah Rukh Khan is officially set to return as the suave super-spy Pathaan, with the sequel now confirmed. The announcement came during the actor’s recent visit to Dubai, where an unexpected reveal at a public
event put an end to months of speculation around the future of the blockbuster franchise.
The confirmation emerged at a real estate launch in Dubai, where a tower bearing Shah Rukh Khan’s name was unveiled. During the event, the developer on stage announced that Pathaan 2 is in development. A video from the launch, widely shared by fan accounts online, captured the moment when the developer said, “Koi blockbuster movie hoti hai toh uska ek sequel hota hai, am I right? Like ‘Pathaan’. ‘Pathaan 2’ aa rahi hai. Toh koi movie aap dekho, toh uska sequel hoga.”
The statement quickly sent fans into a frenzy, especially with the timing of the news coinciding with Ranveer Singh’s action thriller Dhurandhar, which has opened to a massive Rs 200 crore at the box office. One fan shared the announcement clip and wrote, “ALL TIME GROSSER & the HIGHEST GROSSER from the Spy Universe to get a SEQUEL. #Pathaan2 likely to start next year after the release of Alia Bhatt’s ‘Alpha’.”

Several others connected the sequel announcement with upcoming projects in Yash Raj Films’ expanding Spy Universe. One comment read, “And after the tsunami created by #Dhurandhar, expectations from every spy film are now SKY HIGH — Pathaan 2 is walking into MASSIVE hype already!” Another fan speculated, “Alpha mein post-credit scene SRK diya toh samajh lena ki Pathaan 2 confirm hai!”
During the same Dubai event, Shah Rukh Khan reflected on a series of recent personal and professional milestones. Speaking about being honoured internationally and in India, the actor said, “I have a bronze DDLJ statue in London, I’ve won a National Award, and now there’s a building in Dubai named after me. I’ve become someone my parents can look down on proudly from heaven. It’s a life-changing moment for me.”
Meanwhile, industry reports suggest Pathaan 2 will go on floors next year and will be shot extensively in Chile. According to a Mid-Day report, discussions around filming in the country gained momentum during Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font’s recent visit to India. Filmmaker-actor Anshuman Jha, who was part of the meeting, shared, “There are concrete conversations of Pathaan 2 by Yash Raj Films and Lakadbaggha 3 being shot in Chile next year. I hope we help His Excellency’s vision of bringing the beauty of Chile to the world through our cinema.”
In terms of the larger franchise plan, reports indicate that Pathaan 2 will release ahead of the high-profile crossover Tiger vs Pathaan. An earlier Pinkvilla report suggested that the sequel will play a crucial role in setting up the clash between Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Salman Khan’s Tiger. Echoing this, a PeepingMoon report stated, “The sequel is designed not only to carry forward Pathaan’s story, but also to lay the groundwork for larger conflicts in upcoming instalments of YRF’s Spy Universe.”
