Artificial intelligence has made it easier than ever to create realistic images, videos and voice clips. But for many, especially celebrities, the technology has also created a new problem: their faces
and voices can be used without permission, sometimes to make them appear to say or do things they never did.
Recently, Salman Khan addressed the misuse of AI-generated videos during Bigg Boss 20. Speaking about manipulated videos circulating online, the actor said that AI can be used to clone people’s voices and create videos that make it appear as though they have said things they never did. He shared that he has himself appeared in fake AI-generated videos, and called for strict laws and censorship to curb the misuse. He isn’t the only celeb to speak out against AI misuse, with several others raising similar concerns.
Salman Khan
On Bigg Boss 20, Salman Khan said, “People who don’t know it is AI generated content might say that Salman Khan was there. But those who know this reality and still created the video—what kind of people are they? Those people should be put behind bars. Until one or two of them go to prison, this will not stop. There has to be a censorship on social media. And I am going to take this up very seriously.”
The actor had also taken the legal route earlier. In 2025, Salman approached the Delhi High Court over the unauthorised use of his name, image, voice and other aspects of his persona, including through AI, morphing and fake content.
Shalini Pandey
Shalini Pandey recently spoke out after a fake AI-generated video featuring her began circulating online. Taking to Instagram in August 2026, she clarified that the video was completely fabricated and did not depict her. Calling the misuse of technology deeply disturbing, Pandey said such abuse should not be normalised. She also asked people not to download, forward or engage with the video and instead report it. “It is deeply disturbing to see technology being misused in this way to target and harm individuals, especially women,” she wrote.
Mrunal Thakur
Mrunal Thakur issued a strong warning after AI-generated deepfakes using her image and identity went viral on social media in 2026. She described the creation and sharing of such material as illegal and unacceptable and said people should be held accountable for using someone else’s identity without permission. She also warned that any further misuse of her identity would result in legal action.
Rashmika Mandanna
Rashmika Mandanna was among the Indian celebrities whose deepfake video brought major attention to the issue. In November 2023, Rashmika responded on Instagram, describing the experience as frightening and calling for action against those responsible.
“Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused,” she wrote.
“We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft,” she added.
Ranveer Singh
In April 2024, Ranveer Singh became the subject of an AI-generated video that made it appear as though he was expressing political views. The video used an AI-generated voice clone, while footage from his real visit to Varanasi was used alongside it.
Ranveer responded through his Instagram Story with a simple warning to his followers: “Deepfake se bacho doston” — urging people to be careful about manipulated content circulating online.
Sreeleela
In 2025, Sreeleela expressed concerns over the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI). “I put my hands together and request every social media user not to support AI-generated nonsense. There is a difference between using and abusing technology. Advancements in technology are meant to simplify life, not complicate it, in my opinion. Every girl out there is a daughter, granddaughter, sister, friend, or colleague, even if she chooses art as one of her professions. We wish to be part of an industry that spreads joy, with the confidence that we are in a protected environment,” she wrote.
