India T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill made a promising start to the ongoing five-match bilateral series in Australia, hitting an unbeaten 37 before rain forced the contest in Canberra to be abandoned. From
his next two innings, as India bounced back to draw level at one-all, Gill managed a total of 20 runs including five in Melbourne and 15 in Hobart.
Now, a couple of innings without significant contributions may not be a cause for alarm bells, but given that his presence in the playing XI means that someone as talented as Yashasvi Jaiswal has to warm the benches does put the former under some pressure to justify keeping the spot.
Gill has the pedigree and has in the past shown strong signs that he can be a regular in all three formats, and so has Jaiswal. The 26-year-old will be eager to ease up the pressure in the fourth T20I to be played at the Carrara Oval in Queensland today.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led squad underwent training for the penultimate contest at the venue, and a video of India head coach Gautam Gambhir having a long interaction with Gill is doing the rounds on social media.
