Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday is just around the corner, and his fans might have an extra reason to celebrate this year. The actor, who will turn 61 on November 2, has a special surprise lined up for everyone
waiting to see him in King. After keeping fans guessing with his social media posts, director Siddharth Anand has now confirmed that something new from the film is on its way.
The makers of King have confirmed that a new promotional asset from the film will be released at midnight on November 2, right as Shah Rukh Khan celebrates his 61st birthday.
But what exactly are they planning to show? That part is still under wraps. It could be a new character poster or the much-awaited teaser. The makers haven’t confirmed either, so fans will have to wait until midnight for the surprise. The update comes after director Siddharth Anand shared a few cryptic posts on social media.
There had also been reports that the film’s teaser could be released on the actor’s birthday. An earlier report by Bollywood Hungama suggested that the team was planning a special gift for SRK fans. “It’s a birthday gift from team King to all Shah Rukh Khan fans, and Siddharth Anand is going to deliver a new SRK experience. The teaser cut is apparently mind-blowing with Shah Rukh Khan like never before, delivering larger-than-life dialogues with style and suave,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The report also suggested that the teaser could kick off the film’s worldwide promotions. The makers reportedly want to give audiences something they haven’t experienced in Indian cinema before in this genre.
While the birthday update has got fans excited, King has also been making news for another big reason. The film has reportedly secured a huge overseas distribution deal. According to Pinkvilla, Phars Films has acquired the international theatrical rights of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer for a minimum guarantee of Rs 175 crore, which is more than $18 million.
If the reported figures are correct, this would be the biggest overseas theatrical rights deal for an Indian film. Previous deals in this category were reportedly below Rs 100 crore.
A deal worth Rs 175 crore also means that the expectations from King are quite high. Overseas distributors usually receive around 50 per cent of a film’s total box office collections. Going by this calculation, King would need to earn between $37 million and $40 million internationally for its distributor to recover the investment. In Indian currency, that comes to around Rs 350 crore to Rs 375 crore.
King brings Shah Rukh Khan and director Siddharth Anand together once again after the success of Pathaan in 2023. The film also has an interesting cast, with Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Raghav Juyal and Saurabh Shukla playing important roles.
Another big highlight is that Shah Rukh will share screen space with his daughter Suhana Khan for the first time. Suhana made her acting debut with Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies in 2023. King will mark her theatrical debut.
The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on December 24.
