Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan has been awaiting release for months after missing its original Pongal 2026 window. The film, which was earlier slated to hit theatres on January 9, 2026,
reportedly remained stuck due to certification-related delays. Now, fresh reports suggest that Vijay is keen to ensure that the film reaches theatres at the earliest.
According to India Today, Vijay has reportedly asked Jana Nayagan producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions to return to Chennai and focus on securing the final approvals required for the film’s release.
Did Vijay Ask Jana Nayagan Producer To Cut Short Cannes Visit?
As per the report, Venkat K Narayana was in France for the Cannes Film Festival, where the Malayalam film Balan was being screened. However, Vijay reportedly instructed him to cut short his visit and return to Chennai to prioritise Jana Nayagan.
The film has allegedly been pending with the revising committee for several weeks. Once the necessary clearance is granted, the makers are expected to move ahead with the final formalities for its theatrical release.
Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled to release during Pongal 2026. However, the delay in certification meant the film could not arrive in cinemas as planned. Reports now suggest that the makers are eyeing a release by the end of May 2026.
The film holds special significance for fans as it is being widely touted as Vijay’s final acting project before he steps away from cinema.
