Speaking at the BRICS Business Forum, Putin said more than 40 per cent of the world’s GDP has been produced by BRICS countries over the last five years. In contrast, he said, the contribution of the G7 stands at only 29 per cent.
“The world is always changing, and this is attested to by the objective facts of the last five years,” Putin said. He then referred to the economic contribution of BRICS and the G7.

“Over the last five years, more than 40 per cent of the world GDP has been produced by the BRICS countries, whereas the contribution of the so-called G7, the Group of Seven, I don’t know why they call that the Group of Seven, stands at only 29 per cent,” Putin said.

Putin was addressing the BRICS Business Forum ahead of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. He said the forum reflects the growing interest in strengthening business contacts and relationships across the BRICS space.
Earlier in his address, Putin said reliable business-to-business ties and economic partnerships were the “backbone of international economic relations”. He said such ties help build international economic relations in a stronger and more resilient manner and help countries overcome the problems facing the world.
Putin also said the world is undergoing “structural, deep, profound shifts”, pointing to changes in the global economic landscape.
The Russian president’s remarks on the G7 came as he highlighted the growing economic contribution of BRICS countries. He said the figures from the last five years demonstrated how the world was changing and pointed to the increasing weight of BRICS in the global economy.
Putin’s comments came in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and representatives of the business communities of BRICS countries at the forum.
