this city accounts for nearly 69% of the banana cultivation in Maharashtra itself. In fact, in India, Jalgaon produces around 16% of India’s total banana output.
Jalgaon bananas have held a Geographical Indication (GI) tag since 2016, confirming their unique quality and origin. This city is also famous for producing high-quality Basrai, Shrimanti, and Grand Naine varieties. It has been able to claim this title due to the fantastic climate conditions that make it ideal for growing bananas in the city. As it is located between the Satpuda and Ajanta mountain ranges, Jalgaon has fertile volcanic soil that provides an ideal environment for large-scale banana cultivation.
