Other Similar Fatalities Highlight The Risk
Sadly, this is not an isolated case. In Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, 28-year-old Irfan, a fast-food vendor, died from an electric shock while repairing a washing machine. Despite being rushed to Lohia Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
Similarly, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, police head constable Jawahar Singh Yadav, nicknamed ‘Yamraj’, succumbed to an electric shock while bathing his cow. These incidents highlight the deadly consequences of carelessness around electrical devices.
Why Electric Shocks Occur?
Experts explain that electric shocks happen when electrical current passes through the body, disrupting nerve function and generating heat. If a person cannot free themselves from the source, the injuries can be severe or fatal. The presence of water in washing machines significantly increases the risk.
To reduce danger, experts advise placing washing machines on wooden or elevated stands to prevent current conduction through water. It is also essential to ensure the machine is completely switched off and unplugged before putting hands inside.
