The Ketti Railway Station, which serves the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, is one of the most breathtaking railway stations in the state. A video on X shows the old-world charm of the station, making viewers feel as if they are in a different world.
The clip was shared by a user on X who called Ketti “one of the most beautiful railway stations of Tamil Nadu.” The clip shows an empty, rain-drenched station with a tiled roof and wrought iron benches. The backdrop of the tall trees and the misty mountains enhances the station’s beauty.

About Ketti Railway Station
The Ketti Railway Station is situated 2092 metres above sea level. It is part of the Southern Railway zone. The station is famous for its beautiful views, its proximity to Ooty and for being a part of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway.
As many viewers pointed out in the comments section of the video, this station is where the climax of the iconic film Moondram Pirai was shot. The movie remains famous for its tragic ending and performances of Sridevi and Kamal Haasan. The scene was filmed over five days at Ketti Railway Station.
Ketti can be reached through the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, also called the Ooty Toy Train. The journey includes 16 tunnels, 208 steep curves and 250 bridges, providing travellers with an experience like no other. Several quaint towns like Coonoor, Wellington, Ketti and Aravankadu are some of the towns that can be reached through the mountain railway.

As per Lifestyle Asia, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway has 72 First Class seats and 100 Second Class ones. The carriages are crafted entirely out of wood in shades of blue and cream. Operating daily, the 46-km-long metre-gauge single-track Nilgiri Mountain Railway is the only mountain railway in southern India. The mountain railways of India are counted as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Ketti Railway Station, along with the entire Nilgiri Mountain Railway, also comes under this tag. The train is sometimes called the “slowest” train journey in the country and covers 46 km in five hours. it is almost 16 times slower than India’s fastest trains.
The train departs from Mettupalayam at 7:10 am and reaches Ooty at noon. At Ooty, visitors can enjoy a trip to the tea plantations, the boutique hotels and old buildings of the hill station. The return train leaves Ooty at 2 pm and reaches Mettupalayam by 5:35 pm. Tickets can be booked via the IRCTC’s official website and app.
