After promising that he would musically collaborate with Jemimah Rodrigues if Team India win the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar acted on his words and asked the middle-order
batter to come up with a song for them to sing together.
Gavaskar posted a video on Instagram, requesting Jemimah to let him know the exact date when she would ring the guitar and he would sing the lyrics, reiterating he would be more than happy to do so.
In the video captioned “promise is a promise”, Gavaskar expressed his delight over India lifting the prized silverware, congratulating Harmanpreet Kaur’s team for their unprecedented achievement that is bound to inspire the next generation of women to take up the sport.
The batting maestro then spoke about the upcoming music collab with Jemimah, carrying a big smile on his face.

“Hi, Jemimah. Firstly, many, many congratulations to you and your team for having won the ICC Women’s World Cup. That is a tremendous moment, a moment to cherish, a moment to savour and a moment for the ages. For all the joy and happiness that you have given the Indian cricket community and Indian cricket fans, we can’t thank you enough,” said Gavaskar.
“Yes, I do remember saying that if you win the World Cup, and I was always confident that you were going to do that, then you will play the guitar and I will sing the song. Song, of course, it’s up to you which one. I had a song prepared in case I was able to get to the changing room (after winning the World Cup), but I didn’t have the accreditation. But never mind it; you tell me the date… this weekend, Sunday maybe? Do let me know. Looking forward to it.”
It was after Jemimah’s tremendous knock of 127 not out in the semi-final win over Australia on October 30 that Gavaskar had first mentioned the collab over a song, which will be revealed soon.
“If India wins the World Cup. She (Jemi) and I, if she’s okay to do that, we will sing a song together; she with her guitar and I will sing a song,” an elated Gavaskar had said during an interaction with India Today.
As India were crowned world champions for the first time on Sunday, November 2, Jemimah took note of Gavaskar’s words two days later and responded to his remarks for a potential collab with great excitement.
