Tamil Nadu Floor Test: Amid the ongoing floor test for the newly elected Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government in Tamil Nadu, Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Wednesday announced that the DMK
will walk out of Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s confidence vote session.
While addressing the assembly during the confidence vote session, the DMK MLA targeted the newly elected government and said that people of the state were already questioning how long the government would last and feeling they had committed a “grave error” by voting for it.

He further said that there should be a “secular government” in Tamil Nadu and claimed that nearly 65% of the state’s voters had rejected Chief Minister Vijay and the TVK in the elections.
“At the very least, now that he has achieved success, he must carry out his work in a manner that earns the trust of the people. The very people who voted for you have begun to feel that they have committed a grave error,” Udhayanidhi said in the Assembly.

Questioning the stability of the new government, he added, “How long will this government last is what the people are thinking about.”
The DMK leader also urged the government not to “make people wait for months” and said the ruling party should fulfil the promises made during the election campaign.
Announcing the party’s decision, Udhayanidhi said that the DMK would stage a walkout and would not participate in the confidence vote.

Additionally, DMK ally MMK also opposed the trust vote, with its leader Jawahirullah raising the lack of Muslim representation in the state Cabinet. Another ally Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi (MJK), also voted against Vijay and his party during the trust vote.
Vijay Gets Backing From These Parties
Meanwhile, Congress, CPI(M), and VCK MLAs have extended support to the TVK government. Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), which has two MLAs, has also extended support to the TVK government.
Expelled Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam (AMMK) MLA Kamaraj has also supported TVK in the Assembly. He said, “I supported the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government yesterday, I support it today, and I will continue to support it for the next five years. CM Vijay is protecting the entire state. I believe he will not leave me either. I am sure our Vijay will protect and save me too.”
How Tamil Nadu Govt Was Formed?
Vijay’s TVK emerged as the single largest party in the recently held Assembly election with 108 seats, but remained 10 short of the majority mark of 118 in the 234-member House. However, since Vijay won two seats and he resigned from one of them, the shortfall rose to 11.
Since then, the actor-turned-politician has stitched together support from the Congress (5), the Indian Union Muslim League (2), Communist Party of India (2), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (2) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (2), taking the ruling coalition’s strength to 120 and forming the government last week.
