Russian President Vladimir Putin said there was a chance of a peace agreement between Moscow and Ukraine amid escalating hostilities between both sides, adding that Russia was in favour of restoring relations
with the United States.
While speaking at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, Putin said, “We are grateful to everyone who is trying to contribute to resolving this issue. Is there a chance? In my opinion, yes, there is.”
“As for our contacts with the US administration, they are ongoing. We are in contact with the US administration, and we remain in contact to this day, and I hope these contacts will continue. We are in favour of restoring full-format relations with the United States.”
However, Putin emphasised that the restoration of ties depends on the American side as well. He further said US President Donald Trump is ready for positive and constructive work on resolving key international issues.
Another Trump-Putin Summit?
This came after Trump said he was ready to hold another summit with Putin if Moscow is prepared to work towards a “peace deal” to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. “He’d do it. I want it, but I want to do it when we’re ready to do a peace deal,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Office.
Trump said he wanted the United States to maintain good relations with both Russia and Ukraine, arguing that improved ties would also be beneficial for business.
Recent reports showed that the Trump administration is opening high-level backchannel talks to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine and secure Moscow’s leverage in the expanding Middle East conflict.
