Yamal, just 19, had fulfilled another extraordinary chapter in a career already moving at breakneck speed. After helping Spain win Euro 2024, the Barcelona winger has now added the World Cup to his growing collection, becoming one of the youngest players ever to conquer both major international tournaments.
Messi, on the other hand, had already delivered his nation the elusive World Cup in 2022 before adding Copa América triumphs in 2021 and 2024.
Argentina’s Collapse
It was a night in which Argentina never truly looked like themselves.
Spain’s relentless press and historically dominant defence suffocated the reigning champions, restricting the tournament’s highest-scoring attack to virtually nothing.
