Some beauty moments are designed for their time, others quietly transcend it. When Manushi Chhillar was crowned Miss World in 2017, her look struck a rare balance between polish and restraint. While her crystal-embellished
Falguni Shane Peacock gown captured global attention, it was her luminous skin, sculpted eyes, and softly defined lips that truly anchored the moment.
Fast forward to New Year’s Eve, and the former Miss World revisited that iconic glam. This time, breaking it down step by step, in a makeup tutorial that revealed just how intentional and technique-driven the look really was.
Manushi Chhillar began with a focus on durability, applying primer across her face to ensure the makeup stayed intact through long hours. Though she admitted she’s not a foundation girl, she explained that the Miss World finale called for extra coverage. “I would dilute my foundation, and I’m going to be going in with something to give me a lot of coverage,” she shared.
The technique allowed her to maintain a skin-like finish while still achieving the flawless canvas required under harsh stage lighting. Instead of piling on product, Manushi relied on thoughtful concealer placement. After applying a warm-toned concealer under the eyes, she followed it with a lighter shade to brighten key areas.
“For the lighter one, I’m going to be drawing a triangle by making 3 points,” she explained, recommending a shade two tones lighter to naturally lift the under-eye area. Blending both concealers ensured dimension without obvious contrast, which was subtle, effective, and stage-ready.
Despite having naturally angular features, Manushi approached contouring with restraint. “I’ve an angular face with high cheekbones. I don’t think I need to contour that much,” she said, lightly blending product around her temples and nose. For the nose, she revealed a clever trick: “If you draw a line right underneath your browbone, it’s just like an extension of your browbone. You’re literally contouring in the shadow.”
The result? Definition that looks natural, not drawn on.
The eyes balanced depth with glow. Manushi used bronzer through the crease, layered brown and black shadows for dimension, and added golden glitter at the centre of the lid for light-catching impact. A classic black eyeliner and generous mascara completed the look. After brushing away excess powder, she warmed up her complexion with bronzer, added a cool pink blush across cheeks and nose, and tapped golden highlighter on high points. A pinkish-nude lipstick paired with a darker liner, blended and glossed at the centre, gave her lips fullness without overpowering the look.
A final mist of setting spray sealed the glamour, proving that great beauty isn’t about trends but about technique, confidence, and knowing exactly when to stop.
