of Flowers in Uttarakhand has once again opened its gates to visitors. Home to hundreds of flower species, including rare alpine plants found only in high-altitude ecosystems, the valley attracts nature lovers, trekkers and photographers from around the world. As the new season begins, forest officials are urging tourists to enjoy the breathtaking landscape responsibly and help preserve its fragile biodiversity.
Valley Of Flowers Trek Route
This trek is believed to be moderate, but can get taxing if you’re also visiting the religious site of Hemkund Sahib, which is located at an elevation. Many trekking companies organise treks of different durations, with 4-6 days being the average. The base camp for Valley of Flowers is located at Poolna or Pipalkoti, depending on your company. You can also reach Govindghat and camp there.
Can We Stay Overnight In Valley Of Flowers?
From Poolna/Govindghat, you’ll have to trek to Ghangaria, also called Gobind Dham. From here, the Valley of Flowers is about 4 kms one way. Overnight stay or camping is not allowed in Valley of Flowers and you need to be back at Ghangaria by 5 pm. From Ghangaria, another route also takes you to Hemkund Sahib gurudwara.
Best Time To Visit The Valley Of Flowers
Nestled in the Chamoli district and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, the Valley of Flowers is famous for its meadows, rare Himalayan flora, and snow-capped peaks in the backdrop. Every year, the park is open to visitors from June to October. However the best time to visit the valley is in July and August since that is the peak blooming season. This is when the valley transforms into a riot of colours, carpeted with over 600 species of flowers. Monsoon rains may make the trails a bit slippery, but they also bring the landscape to life. You should also watch out for the precious Brahmakamal, a rare flower that only grows around the altitude of 14,000 feet.
How To Reach Valley Of Flowers
By Flight: Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Valley of Flowers but the roads are only connected up to Govind Ghat from where you have to trek for 16 km to reach Valley of Flowers.
By Train: The nearest railway station to Valley of flowers is Rishikesh from where you can take a bus or taxi for Govindghat.
