Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan has been shifted from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical tests and treatment after spending 1,111 days in prison, CNN-News18
has learnt.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder is expected to undergo tests and treatment related to hypertension, cardiac issues, anxiety and his eyes at the hospital.
A medical board evaluated Khan at Adiala Jail before the transfer, following which elaborate security arrangements were put in place at Shifa International Hospital.
Shifa Hospital Put Under High Security
Ahead of Khan’s transfer, parts of Shifa International Hospital were declared a sub-jail and placed under a high-security alert.
Executive floors A-4 and E-4 have been designated as the sub-jail area for the former prime minister. Islamabad Police have secured the ward and cleared the surrounding areas as part of the security operation.
Gate One of the hospital has been designated for Khan’s arrival, while security has been tightened at all entrances.
Roads leading to the hospital have also been closed and parking areas vacated amid a heavy police deployment.
Over 830 Police Personnel Deployed
More than 830 federal police officers and personnel have been deployed for the security arrangements, according to Islamabad Police.
The personnel will perform duties in two shifts — from 7 pm to 7 am and from 7 am to 7 pm.
Senior police officers are personally monitoring the security operation surrounding Khan’s medical transfer.
Mobile Phones Banned, Signal Jammers Activated
A strict ban on mobile phones has been imposed on staff inside the designated security zone at Shifa International Hospital.
Signal jammers have also been activated as senior doctors and heads of various departments assemble at the hospital for Khan’s medical examination and treatment.
Dr Faisal Sultan and Khan’s sister Dr Uzma Khan are accompanying him to Shifa International Hospital.
The extensive security arrangements come as Khan undergoes medical assessment outside Adiala Jail after a prolonged period in custody.
