The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a warning to schools and students, advising against enrolling in fake or unrecognised universities. This advisory follows a communication from
the University Grants Commission (UGC), requesting CBSE to spread awareness to protect students from dubious institutions.
CBSE has informed schools that the UGC regularly publishes public notices and updates a list of fake universities and unrecognised higher educational institutions on its official website. This initiative aims to raise awareness among students, parents, and other stakeholders, as enrolling in such institutions can severely impact a student’s academic progression and future career prospects.
CBSE has also instructed schools to prominently display the advisory on notice boards and share it through school websites, circulars, and parent-teacher meetings. The board has urged all affiliated schools to strictly comply with these directions to protect students from falling into the trap of unrecognised and self-styled educational institutions.
“Schools shall inform and counsel students of Classes X and XII, along with their parents/guardians, about the risks associated with fake universities. Students must be advised to verify the recognition status of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) on the official UGC website (www.ugc.ac.in) under the main menu tab “HEls.” The advisory should be prominently displayed on school notice boards and disseminated through school websites, circulars, and during Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs). Students should be encouraged to apply for admission only to UGC-recognised HEIs,” reads the official notice.
According to the official CBSE schedule, the Class 10 and 12 board exams will begin on February 17, 2026, and will continue until April 9, 2026, covering all major streams. The CBSE Class 10 board exams will also begin on February 17, 2026, and conclude on March 10, 2026.
Last year, the CBSE released the admit cards for Class 10 and 12 board exams on February 3rd and exams began on February 15th. It is expected that the board will release the admit cards around the same date this year as well. Once the admit cards are released, schools will be able to download their students’ admit cards by visiting the CBSE’s official website – cbse.gov.in.
