Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the Opposition of spreading rumours and attempting to create panic in the country amid the ongoing war in Iran, alleging that its leaders were exploiting
a national crisis to target his government.
“These are people who want to see the country in trouble. Whenever the nation faces a crisis, they rejoice,” PM Modi said, launching a sharp attack on his political opponents.
Citing the conflict in Iran as a recent example, the prime minister alleged that while the country was coming together to deal with the challenges arising from the war, the Opposition was busy spreading misinformation.
“A recent example is the ongoing war in Iran. While India is coming together to face the challenges unitedly, these people are busy spreading rumours. Farmers were also misled and frightened over the availability of fertilisers,” he said.
PM Modi further alleged that the Opposition’s objective was to create disorder in the country and damage his reputation. “Their plan was to create chaos in the country so that they could defame Modi,” he said.
The remarks come amid concerns over the possible economic and supply-chain implications of the Iran war, including its impact on energy supplies and the availability of essential commodities. The government has stressed the need for coordination and preparedness to deal with the fallout of the conflict.
