The Supreme Court has assigned the Delhi stray dogs crackdown case to a new bench, with the hearing set for Thursday.
A special three-judge bench of the Supreme Court will hear multiple matters linked to
the ongoing stray dog issue in Delhi.
The bench has been constituted to take up the court’s suo motu case on the matter, along with a 2024 petition and another public interest litigation (PIL) that were mentioned before the apex court earlier. All four cases, including those brought up today, have been clubbed for hearing by the newly assigned bench.
On August 11, a bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan observed that instances of dog bites had given rise to an “extremely grim” situation and ordered the permanent relocation of all strays in Delhi-NCR “at the earliest”.
