Iran has endorsed the anti-war sentiment among American voters amid the ongoing US midterm elections, with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf warning Washington against ignoring public
opinion and resuming military action against Tehran.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf said Americans had rejected the war, adding that Iran supported their message. He also warned the US government that any attempt to go against the public’s wishes to serve what he described as “international paymasters and blackmailers” would have consequences.
“Conscience or the cost of living, Americans said no to war, and we endorse this message,” Ghalibaf wrote.
“If the US govt betrays their public will to serve international paymasters and blackmailers, it will learn our NO comes with a Nightmare,” he added.
The remarks come at a time of heightened uncertainty over the future of the US-Iran conflict, with Washington and Tehran still far from reaching an agreement to end hostilities.
The Iran war has also emerged as a key issue in the US midterm elections, in which voters are casting ballots in several closely watched contests.
Ghalibaf’s Warning To Washington Amid Iran War Tensions
Ghalibaf’s post appears to link American public opposition to the war with Tehran’s warning that the United States should not resume military operations against Iran.
His remarks come amid uncertainty over diplomatic efforts to prevent another escalation. A senior Iranian official told Reuters on November 3 that Washington and Tehran remained far from a deal to end the conflict, despite ongoing indirect negotiations facilitated by regional mediators.
The Iranian official said mediators were working to narrow differences between the two sides.
Qatari mediators had travelled to Tehran on Monday night to discuss a version of a draft US-Iran agreement that had been under discussion over the preceding eight days.
However, Tehran maintained that its conditions would have to be met before any agreement could be reached.
According to the senior Iranian official quoted by Reuters, Iran wants the United States to waive oil sanctions, end its naval blockade and release frozen Iranian funds.
Tehran has also linked these demands to reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
Trump Keeps Military Option Open, Says US Is ‘Locked And Loaded’
US President Donald Trump has not ruled out renewed military action against Iran, even as diplomatic efforts continue.
In an interview with Fox News Channel on Tuesday, Trump renewed his warnings against Tehran, saying: “I’m not looking to kill lots of people. If we have to, we’ll have to.”
In a separate interview with the Financial Times, Trump suggested that he was satisfied with the current state of the stand-off, saying, “We seem to be getting everything we want.”
Asked about indications from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that an attack could take place later in the week, Trump said, “I’m ready, we’re ready. We’re locked and loaded if we need to go, but there may be no reason for it.”
Trump also told the newspaper that indirect discussions with Iran over its stockpile of enriched uranium were continuing.
