Traffic rule violations make headlines almost daily. Be it driving on the wrong side of the road, going above the speed limit or not wearing a helmet or seatbelt, people often miss following basic safety
rules. A video on X has led to a discussion about how driving licenses are issued in India. The post, which called for licenses to be mandatory before buying any vehicle in the country, featured a video of an accident taking place on a busy road.
The video was shared by an account called Indian Gems. The clip featured a bike taking a tumble while speeding ahead, making its passengers fall. The location and date of the clip are not mentioned in the caption. The authenticity of the clip could not be independently verified.
Viral Video Of Bike Accident
The clip shows a bike overtaking a truck. The vehicle then swerves, before moving to the extreme left of the road. A few seconds later, it enters a sandy path running parallel to the road and the biker loses control of the vehicle. Both he and his passenger, a woman, tumble to the ground, rolling on the sandy patch.
The clip was shared with the caption, “Driving Licence should be mandatory for buying a vehicle all over India.”

Users React To Driving License Comment
The caption about mandatory driving licenses for buying a vehicle led to a heated discussion on X. Many users said that a stricter test for getting a driving license was the need of the hour.
“Bike lena mushkil hai. License easily mil jata hai,” a user wrote. “In india first buy the vehicle then get DL, it’s a norm,” another pointed out.
“Nah, there should be a “Am I a moronic rider/driver assessment”, quite sure 90% of the population will fall in the Unfit to operate a motorised vehicle,” someone quipped.
Some people supported the bike rider. “Something happened with his rear tyre which caused the dis-balance. I don’t see any lack of driving skills in this case,” an account commented.
An account advocated for wrong side driving being considered as a criminal offence. “Driving licenses are a sham in India! You can get a DL even without driving the vehicle. Need of the hour is for ALL Indians to renew their DL over the next 5 years under strict conditions / examinations. Plus wrong side driving needs to be a criminal offence,” the user advised.
Some pointed out that the clip was fake and others said that it was not from India. “This is not India. It’s a car with left hand drive and driving on the road is also not allowed here,” a user wrote.
“When did Indians start driving on the right side of the road? Either this is AI or not India,” another remarked.
The video has led to a spirited debate on how driving in India can be improved. Many users advocated for stricter norms in issuance of licenses, while others said a change in rules and better enforcement is required.
