Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited farewell film Jana Nayagan has been stuck in limbo since January 2026 due to certification-related issues. While there is growing buzz that the makers may soon announce
a fresh release date, new reports suggest that the team could be considering a major change in its release strategy.
According to recent speculation, the makers may now opt for a solo theatrical release instead of continuing with the existing distributor model.
Will Jana Nayagan Makers Refund Distributors?
As per a report by Gulte, Vijay has reportedly asked the Jana Nayagan team to refund the money collected from distributors and stakeholders. The actor is said to have suggested that the film should be released directly by the makers after months of delay.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Vijay or the producers so far, and the claims remain speculative at this stage.
For the unversed, Jana Nayagan was initially scheduled to release during Pongal 2026. However, the film reportedly could not secure certification in time, leaving its theatrical release stalled. After several months of uncertainty, reports now suggest that the makers are eyeing a June 2026 release, possibly around Vijay’s birthday.
The film has also reportedly been hit by an online leak, further intensifying conversations around when it will finally arrive in theatres.
