Director Priyadarshan has reacted to his exit from Hera Pheri. After producer Firoz Nadiadwala said that the project is currently moving in the right direction and remains on track, Priyadarshan has said that,
as per his knowledge, Hera Pheri 3 will never be released. This has come as a shock to fans of the franchise starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal.
In a chat with Hindustan Times, Priyadarshan said, “What Firoz has said is true. I am not associated with Hera Pheri 3 at the present.” He added, “To the best of my knowledge, Hera Pheri 3 will never hit the screen due to lots of legal issues and personal conflicts. Whether I am involved or not is unimportant.”
For the unversed, producer Firoz Nadiadwala had recently told Variety India, “No, Priyadarshan is not part of it.” Sharing an update about the highly anticipated film, he added, “Things are on track and moving in the right direction.”
The original Hera Pheri (2000) was directed by Priyadarshan, but its sequel, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), was directed by Neeraj Vora. As for Hera Pheri 3, Indra Kumar was officially brought on board in 2018 to helm the third instalment, but he later exited the project. It was subsequently reported that Priyadarshan would return as the director. Now, however, the latest updates suggest otherwise.
Hera Pheri 3 has been one of the most anticipated films in Bollywood, especially due to the cult status of the earlier films featuring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal.
