Dense fog and poor visibility continue to disrupt flight operations across several parts of northern and eastern India. On Saturday, major airlines, including IndiGo and SpiceJet, issued fresh travel advisories
warning passengers of possible delays, diversions and cancellations, especially during early morning hours.
Visuals from areas such as Dhaula Kuan in New Delhi showed a thick layer of smog covering the city on Saturday morning. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 252 in the area, which falls under the ‘Poor’ category.
Airlines issue travel advisories
IndiGo said low visibility caused by fog is likely to affect operations at Agartala, Bagdogra and Hindon airports. In a post shared on its official X handle early Saturday, the airline said it is closely monitoring weather conditions to minimise disruption and ensure passenger safety.
“Low visibility and fog over Agartala, Bagdogra and Hindon airport may impact flight schedules,” IndiGo said. The airline urged passengers to regularly check their flight status through its website or mobile app and assured full on-ground assistance at airports.
IndiGo has also issued an advisory for Amritsar, Chandigarh and Ranchi. The airlines said fluctuating visibility has led to changes in flight schedules, with operations running slower than usual. Airport teams are prioritising safety, assisting passengers on ground, and will stabilise operations once weather conditions improve. “#Amritsar, #Chandigarh, and #Ranchi, continue to remain wrapped in chilly winter air and lingering fog this morning. The fluctuating visibility has led to changes in flight schedules, and operations may be slower than usual as conditions evolve. Our teams on-ground are prioritizing safety and compliance with visibility requirements,” reads IndiGo advisory.
IndiGo also advised travellers to stay alert for last-minute changes and plan their journeys accordingly, especially if travelling during early morning hours.
SpiceJet also issued a poor visibility advisory, particularly for Bagdogra airport. The airline warned that arrivals, departures and connected flights could be affected due to bad weather conditions.
“Due to poor visibility in Bagdogra, all departures and arrivals, along with their consequential flights, may be impacted,” SpiceJet said. Passengers have been advised to keep checking flight updates on the airline’s official website before heading to the airport.
Jaisalmer airport advisory
Jaisalmer Airport also released a fog advisory on Saturday morning. The airport said dense fog across many parts of northern India could lead to low visibility and affect flight operations.
Passengers travelling to or from Jaisalmer have been asked to follow airline instructions and contact airline helplines for the latest updates before proceeding to the airport.
Advice for passengers
With foggy conditions expected to continue over the next few days, travellers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, stay updated on flight status, and remain prepared for sudden changes in schedules.
